memories with a vividness that nothing else can equal,
for the sense of smell can be extraordinarily evocative,
bringing back pictures as sharp as photographs of
scenes that and left the conscious mind.”

Welcome to Holistic Aromatics!
Transforming elder care using clinical aromatherapy
Clinical aromatherapy is defined as “the skilled use of aromatic essential oils for therapeutic purposes”
We offer aromatic solutions to common challenges in elders and long-term care
Why use clinical aromatherapy with Elders? Because it works! And it is safe (when used properly under the direction of a provider certified in clinical aromatherapy), gentle (but powerful) and extremely effective . Essential oils have pharmacological, physiologic and psychological actions on the human body, and are far more than a nice smell! The term aromatherapy can be misleading, as it suggests that it is a form of healing that works exclusiveily through the sense of smell. Actually, apart from scent, each essential oil has a unique combination of constituents that interacts with the body’s chemistry in a direct manner.
Agitation in Dementia
Agitation in elders with dementia is a common problem, creating emotional distress for the individual as well as interfering with care. While we believe that there is a time and a place for psychotropic medications, they can cause serious side effects, are costly and often have limited efficacy. Our experience over the past several years has shown that agitation in dementia residents can be reduced with essential oils, and we would love to tell you about it.
There are many other applications for using clinical aromatherapy in elders, including wound care, appetite stimulation, mood enhancement, pain, palliative care, and much more. if you are a rest home, assisted living, long term care facility or a family member of a person with dementia with a desire to improve the quality of life of your residents with non-drug interventions, we’d love to hear from you.
